On Wednesday 8 August, the Italian Social Club took over Breakfast Club at St John Paul II Catholic College for an Italian themed feast!
Students were welcome to come along before homeroom and try some biscotti, pastries, salami rolls, hot drinks and more - to fill their bellies before classes began. Food was made and donated by the students and their families, and even accompanied by some Italian acoustic guitar music. The event was led by the Italian teacher Lorena Henriquez.
The Breakfast Club - a free, enthusiastic initiative in 2018 - has been continuing weekly for the students to socialise and see the "Dignity of the Human Person" (our College focus for 2018).
The Breakfast Club at Schofields runs on Wednesdays, and the new "Chewsday" Breakfast Club has been running on Tuesdays at our senior campus at the Nirimba Education Precinct for Year 11 & 12 students since early April. Both clubs have been very successful, with monetary and food donations made consistently by teachers, students and families alike. They are run by two of our Religious Education teachers - Mr Len Lara (who will be taking two students to World Youth Day in Panama City next year), and Miss Alicia Shaw (Religious Education Learning Community Facilitator).
It is an incredibly valuable service for students who occasionally "skip" breakfast - giving them the energy and sustenance to be engaging and an active learner in their morning classes.

๐ Year 8 High Potential Students Attend Future of Female Leadership Forum ๐ Our Orbispace Initiative Program Team (Year 8 High Potential Program) had the exciting opportunity to attend the Future of Female Leadership Forum, hosted by the Orbispace Initiative. This term, our students have been diving into topics such as innovation, womenโs roles in STEM, branding, and ethical leadership, this event brought those concepts to life in the most inspiring way. Held at the Sydney Startup Hub, the largest innovation ecosystem in NSW, the forum brought together female students from across the state for a day of experiential learning. Rather than simply talking about the future of work for women, this event aimed to show them whatโs possible. Students participated in hands-on workshops in: ๐ Industry Software Development ๐ก Mindset Coaching ๐จ Canva Design ๐ค Artificial Intelligence Tools They also attended a networking lunch with leaders in business, technology, and innovation. ๐ Embrace the Wild Youth Leadership Program at Sydney Zoo ๐ Congratulations to our students Ella, Maddison P, Madison A, Matt, Izzy, and Siobhan on being selected for the 2026 cohort of the Embrace the Wild Youth Leadership Program at Sydney Zoo! ๐ These outstanding students are part of our College Agriculture team, and we are thrilled that they have been given this remarkable opportunity to showcase their care and compassion for the natural world. ๐ถ Year 10 Elective Music students have been getting creative with their guitars! ๐ธ As part of the unit, Art Music of the 20th & 21st Century, they explored the innovative world of 20th-century composer John Cage by creating โPrepared Instrumentsโ, where they modified some of our acoustic guitars using everyday materials to change their sound. This hands-on activity gave them a unique insight into experimental sounds and extended instrument techniques.

Year 9 students had an enriching Reflection Day last week with the Youth Mission Team, focused on the powerful theme of Dignity. Through engaging skits, testimonies, and small group discussions, students explored what it means to embrace their true selves and recognising the dignity they hold simply by being created in Godโs image. Inspired by St John Paul IIโs message that each person is unique, unrepeatable, and deeply loved.
