The way passes through this land

St John Paul II is proud to be part of Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese's system of 80 Catholic primary and secondary schools operating across Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains providing more than 43,500 students with a high-quality, low fee Catholic education.

As a future-focused Catholic school, St John Paul II Catholic College strives to be a welcoming and inclusive community inspired by Saint John Paul II who was not afraid to continue the mission of Christ.

We learn and grow together, broadening our students’ perspectives, challenging all to be leaders, to be people of faith, who are countercultural, inspired to create a better world where all can flourish.

We inspire and empower our students through our graduate vision to shape their learning and their future in order to be resilient, self confident, creative and curious learners, able to both solve and pose problems, embrace, challenge and strive for excellence in all that they do.

We encourage individuals to embrace and share their culture and identity to enrich our community by deepening our understanding of each other.

The St John Paul II Catholic College Pillars

Our mission is built upon foundational principles that guide and inspire our community every day.

Be not afraid to be people of Christ

  • To make Jesus Christ the centre of our lives
  • To encounter Jesus in the sacraments, especially Eucharist and Reconciliation
  • Have trust and devotion to Mary who Jesus gave to us as our Heavenly Mother
  • To pray each day in loving friendship with Jesus

Be not afraid to be people of Justice

  • To let Jesus’ law of love inspire our striving for justice
  • To follow the example of Jesus the prince of peace, who taught and lived out peace
  • Who are attentive to the spirit of justice and moved by the same spirit to act
  • To live a life of justice for that is the face of love

Be not afraid to be people of Mercy

  • Who embrace a life of forgiveness and compassion.
  • Who entrust ourselves to the mercy of a loving and forgiving God
  • Who God is calling to become witnesses to mercy in today’s world
  • Who walk in faith and charity always trusting in Jesus’ mercy

Be not afraid to be people of Dignity

  • To promote the good of the individual through service
  • Who sees each person as made in the image and likeness of God and not as an object for use
  • Who opens their arms to welcome all people without distinction or limits
  • Who sees every person as sacred, including the unborn, sick and elderly, and deserves to be treated with dignity

Be not afraid to be people of Service

  • Who follow Jesus’ example of sacrificial love of others
  • Who live out Jesus’ commandment to ‘love one another as I have loved you’
  • Who learns to think rigorously, so as to act rightly and to serve humanity
  • For is not how much we give but how much love we put into giving

Our school crest

  • The green concentric circles represent the gathering place of First Nations people. It also represents our community at St John Paul II Catholic College coming together for important events.
  • The red cross signifies Christ’s sacrifice for humanity.
  • The blue wavy lines represent humanity moving toward the cross and onwards towards the world, visualised as a stream  (water is one of the important symbols of the Darug people).
  • The white surrounding the cross symbolises the active presence of the Holy Spirit.

Our history

Originally founded as Terra Sancta College, our school first opened its doors in 1996. It was established to address the increasing demand for secondary education among local parish families.

Our school first opened its doors in 1996, when it was originally founded as Terra Sancta College. It was established to address the increasing demand for secondary education among local parish families.

In the first year, the school enrolled four classes of Year 7 students and two classes of Year 8 students, served by a staff of 20.

The school continued to expand, resulting in further construction and development of the campus. These new buildings enabled the school to offer continuous education from Years 7 to 12.

In 1995, our senior campus became part of the Nirimba Educational Precinct, a collaborative partnership of secondary and higher education providers in Western Sydney.

We officially became St John Paul II Catholic College at the start of 2015. Our community continues to honor the spirit of our original name, inspired by St. John Paul II's words during his 1986 visit to Australia: "The way to your Father’s house passes through this land."

Today, St John Paul II Catholic College is a vibrant and diverse dual-campus community of over 1,000 students and 100 staff members. We are committed to continuing to provide high-quality Catholic secondary education for many years to come.
