On Tuesday, 29 July, two players from the Greater Western Sydney Giants AFL team visited Year 7 after their sports session!

The students were very excited to meet them. Two students from Year 7, Erin Felton and Cody Brewczynski, gave the students a wrap up of the GWS visit at the recent Terra Sancta Schofields assembly.

Erin Felton:

“Last Tuesday ,at the end of practical sport, two players from the GWS giants, Devon Smith and Cam McCarthy made time to come and talk to Year 7 about their life and sporting career. We asked them questions and we were also given a signed football each. Mr Mackay asked them questions like ‘Why do you play AFL?’ and ‘What do you do when you’re not playing or training?’. Their answers were similar to things we enjoy like watching TV, catching up with friends and most importantly, sleeping. The hardest question they had to answer was ‘What were they going to do when their career was over?’. Devon is planning on becoming a PDHPE teacher and is balancing university and playing, training, club commitments whilst also maintaining a social life.”

Cody Brewczynski:

“To know that these athletes are at the top of their game and only at most 7 years older than us is amazing. I think we all started to wonder what we could achieve if we put in the same amount of effort into the small things. They made us feel like we weren’t just another job, visiting us was something they wanted to do and they even said, ‘this is why we do this, to talk to all these young kids about their future and what we can achieve when we put our minds to it’.”

The teachers would also like to congratulate the students on their fantastic behaviour on the afternoon. Well done!
