Year 9 English students are currently exploring the nature of conflict and how it is represented in Romeo and Juliet.
Focus listing is one key strategy utilised to successfully build students knowledge around specific types of conflict.
Students were required to choose a type of conflict to think more critically about and move to the space which was dedicated to their chosen type of conflict. Students identified texts and composers which have represented the type of conflict and provided reasons why the composer would chose to represent this type of conflict in his or her text. From this, students were given the opportunity to write independently, drawing ideas from the focus list.
To complete the co teaching lesson, students began making predictions regarding the concept of conflict in Romeo and Juliet.
