On Thursday, 28 August, Year 10 had the opportunity to play wheelchair basketball during Learning Enrichment!

Before the students hopped into the wheelchairs, they were introduced to the two professional wheelchair basketball players who were going to teach them how to play the game. The students were ever so intrigued by the stories as to why these players were specifically “wheelchair” basketball players. They learnt what it’s like to be born with a disease such as spina bifida, the difficulties and the endeavours of achieving the impossible as well as the importance of safe driving with another touching yet eye-opening story.

Year 10 Wheelchair Basketball

Soon enough it was time for Year 10 to jump into the wheelchairs and play basketball from a very different perspective. It was definitely a challenge to push the wheelchair and bounce the basketball at the same time let alone knowing how to turn in the chair in the first place!

Surprisingly the students picked up on the rules, moves and techniques very quickly and before you knew it they were playing a proper game of wheelchair basketball. Year 10 had a fantastic time experiencing something very different from their everyday life, and ending their day with a new perspective on basketball.
